Issue 334 - Tesla AI meets all September targets

Tesla Semi

Tesla Semi's impressive 6,000-mile trial performance
NFI has integrated the Tesla Semi into its fleet in Patterson, California, marking a significant move towards greater sustainability. After 6,000 miles, the Semi has demonstrated impressive efficiency, averaging 1.64 kWh per mile, with over 60% of travel at speeds above 50 MPH. This performance mirrors the positive results seen by PepsiCo with their fleet. As Tesla plans to expand Semi production in a new factory near Gigafactory Nevada and explore entry into the European market, the future of electric semis looks promising.

A Tesla Semi has been seen equipped with Lidar, signaling ongoing tests and calibration for Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities in these electric big rigs. It's an exciting hint that Tesla's AI might be inching closer to bringing autonomous features to the Semi fleet.

Prototypes

Model 3 prototype blend spotted in the Bay Area 📹
A mysterious Tesla Model 3 prototype, which seems to be a hybrid of the original and updated 'Highland' designs, was spotted in the Bay Area, leading to lively speculation among Tesla enthusiasts. The vehicle features characteristics of both designs, suggesting it might be an engineering mule for testing. Observers noted modifications to its headlights, taillights, and air intakes, as well as a possible vinyl wrap disguising the exact model.

Software updates

Tesla may phase out free Spotify Premium in Europe
Rumors are circulating that Tesla may discontinue the complimentary Spotify Premium subscription in Europe, which is currently bundled with Tesla’s vehicles requiring Premium Connectivity. With the rise of music service subscriptions and Tesla looking to integrate more services like Amazon Music, it seems like a strategic move to streamline offerings. Since this article was published, Tesla has already announced the discontinuation of the premium Slacker service in the US, so it's likely just a matter of time.

Cybertruck & FSD

Cybertruck gets FSD and includes 'End-to-end on highway'
Tesla has rolled out the much-awaited Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12.5.5 update for the Cybertruck, introducing the 'End-to-End on Highway' capability. This latest neural net-based approach allows the Cybertruck to navigate highways using AI decision-making, a significant shift from the predefined instructions used previously. Early adopters will get the first taste, with a wider release expected after initial feedback. This update also revamps the city-driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network and promises upcoming improvements for lane changes, parking, and intersection handling.

A highlight clip has emerged showcasing the Cybertruck's capability of handling a dangerous situation with aplomb, using the latest Full Self-Driving Supervised version 12.5.5.

In a succinct display of its evolving Full Self-Driving capabilities, the Cybertruck equipped with FSD version 12.5.5 has been demonstrated flawlessly handling two roundabouts before seamlessly merging onto the highway. The smooth execution of this maneuver highlights the ongoing improvements in Tesla's autopilot technology, particularly in complex traffic scenarios.

Tesla AI meets all September targets with Cybertruck FSD launch
Tesla's AI and FSD team have achieved notable success by meeting all their ambitious goals for September, crowned by the launch of Full Self-Driving on the Cybertruck. Although some features haven't seen widespread release, the achievement is a positive signal for Tesla's rapid development, with anticipation building for what's next to be revealed on October 10th.

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • AI: Artificial Intelligence
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
