Yep, we test everything: The best vibrators

Five of the vibrators we tested for this guide, including all of our picks for best vibrator, shown side by side.

They’re a hard product to test. And they’re a bit taboo to talk about. But vibrators can help greatly improve the quality of lives of many people, so our journalists went to work to find the very best ones, using Wirecutter’s rigorous testing standards.

150 cumulative hours of research and testing later—interviewing sex researchers, crowdsourcing opinions from enthusiasts, and analyzing data from 11 volunteers who have tried more than 30 different models since 2014—we walked away with a favorite: the cordless Magic Wand.

This week on The Wirecutter Show, our longtime sex-toy writer Bianca Alba joined our hosts to talk about what to consider when shopping for a sex toy. The first step? Ask yourself what you want out of the experience. And whatever model you decide on, Bianca’s advice is to not give up if you don’t love the toy you choose at first. Try it a few times.

As for the Magic Wand, Bianca says, “If you hate it as a sex toy, it’s a really good back massager. So you’re not wasting your money!”

For more of Bianca’s tips, listen to the episode on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Plus: “I’ve tested dozens of G-spot toys. This is the one I always recommend.”

At first glance the sleek Njoy Pure Wand looks like a futuristic weapon or a piece of modern art. But across more than a decade of reviewing sex toys, Bianca hasn’t found any G-spot toy that testers love nearly as much. Its firm, smooth texture and ergonomic curved shape elicit what testers reported as the most intense sensations of all the penetrative toys they tried.

One last thing: The (actual) best massage guns

Massage guns are meant to soothe your body by melting away knots, increasing circulation, decreasing muscle pain and soreness, and reducing inflammation, among other claims. We compared 24 of them side by side, and walked away with six models to recommend.
