Two weeks ago, the Gaza Health Ministry released a 649-page list of every known person killed since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza. The first 14 pages were babies less than a year old. Now Israel is threatening to turn Lebanon into “another Gaza,” in the words of U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres. Aid workers describe the situation in Lebanon as “apocalyptic,” as more than 1.2 million people have reportedly been displaced from their homes. More than 1,000 people, nearly a quarter of them women and children, have been killed in just the past two weeks. The Intercept is partnering with freelance journalists in the region to expose the truth about the ongoing slaughter in Gaza and Lebanon — but as a nonprofit, we rely on reader donations to fund this vital work. If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Two weeks ago, Israel launched a massive carpet-bombing campaign in Lebanon even more intense than what’s been unleashed on Gaza. Then this week, Israel began a major ground invasion, ordering the evacuation of dozens of towns in southern Lebanon while bombing the only road available to escape. Although President Joe Biden had said publicly that Israel should not enter Lebanon, his administration has continued to provide the weapons and political support that have enabled Israel’s attack. In fact, last week, Israel claimed to have secured $8.7 billion in military aid from the United States, $3.5 billion of which has already been sent. While most of the U.S. news media continues to unquestioningly parrot Israeli military and White House spin as fact, The Intercept is partnering with reporters in the region to expose the truth. Without The Intercept, much of this reporting simply wouldn’t happen — and that’s why we’re asking our readers to donate whatever you can to help support this vital journalism right now. Thank you,
