→ A couple developments re: AI Overviews this week:

- Ads in AI Overviews have officially dropped and is now available for mobile users; the ads will “have a Sponsored label, will appear alongside other, non-sponsored content in the AI summaries and will be drawn from advertisers’ existing Google Shopping and Search campaigns”
- also, data from a SE Ranking report showsthat AI Overviews has been avoiding political content, while Legal and Health-related searches trigger AIO most frequently
- meanwhile, a report from BrightEdge is showing that- after the August core update- AIO is "prioritizing topic-specific sites"
- finally, new research studying “How Search Intent Shapes Google AI Overviews” found “Informational Queries Lead AI Overviews,” "More Links for Complex Intents," "SERP Position Matters for Inclusion," and more

→ Search is seeing an AI re-tool with the addition of video and voice features to Lens.

→ This is a killer thread and essential reading if you still haven’t quite wrapped your head around the important distinctions to be made between Google Search vs. User Intent— aka “Intent, for both the Search/Google/SERP level AND for user intent.”

AI Insight 🤖

→ This is kinda nuts. Business Insider’s AI smart paywalls “determines the content that individual users are most likely to pay to access based on their previous reading habits” and then lets its AI algorithm decide “whether users meet a paywall, registration wal,l or nothing upon entering the website”-- it’s led to a 75% increase in conversions.

→ YouTube’s “AI & Creators: The future of Tech and Creativity” post provides a detailed look at how deeply GenAI is already integrated into the world of the platform, and offers some guidance re: how to navigate its future. ICYMI,

- 92% of creators are already using GenAI tools

- 74% already know a great deal or a fair amount about the technology.”

- 89% believe GenAI tools will likely provide greater access to special effects, production design, and cinematography

AKA, if you’re not already using AI to up your YouTube game, catch up. But, FWIW, this article could have been a video.

→ Meta’s AI video generator- Meta Movie Gen- is pretty wild and is one-upping OpenAI by adding “sound effects, ambient noise and background music.”

→ ICYMI: OpenAI just closed the largest VC round of all time: a $6.6 billion fundraising round.

Social Media Round-up 📲

→ We’re not quite at TikTok levels of length yet, but YouTube will be letting creators post longer Shorts, now allowing running times of up to 3 mins. We’ll also be seeing a re-vamped Shorts player soon, as well as a Trending Shorts page.

→ Speaking of YouTube, the platform is quickly fixing “accidental account bans and channel removals” after randomly and accidentally removing channels for violating “spam, deceptive practices, and scams policy”-- looks like a bug, especially since some of the accounts had never posted a video.

→ ICYMI, about a month ago, Meta officially “overhauled how it measures Ad Conversions”: if you've noticed the platform has been performing worse for you, it could just be a temporary side effect of this shift. However, these changes have also resulted in higher prices. TLDR; first-day conversions have more weight.

→ Classic headline: “X fails to avoid Australia child safety fine by arguing Twitter doesn’t exist.” Worth a shot.
