I cannot believe we celebrated our dog Scoop’s third birthday this summer. The time has gone by fast and with never a dull moment. Our little guy is spoiled rotten, but as any dog owner will confirm, these fur babies are worth every cent for the love they give in return.

Whether you’re bringing home a new puppy or looking for fresh ideas to treat your doggo, this week’s edition is full of tips and recommendations for all the pawrents.

P.S. Thanks for your patience while I took some time away. September was absolute madness with the move, but now I’m ready to share more of the finds I’ve used to set up our new home :)

• Pick a cozy yet durable bed. Young Scoop tried to destroy a bed or two, so we picked one with a strong fabric cover that could be easily removed for washing.

• Create a safe space for them. Making a den for Scoop helped us all sleep through the night early on, and he still likes to crawl into his crate for a nap.

• Budget for toy casualties. Make sure you’re prepared to replace any toys you buy because most will get nasty (or ripped to shreds) quickly.

• Help them love the groomer. Find the best groomer you can afford and prepare for their first visit by brushing them or touching their paws and ears regularly.

• Choose your bowls wisely. Buy heavier bowls to avoid spills from scooting and flipping, along with a placemat to protect your floors.

• Find ways to keep them busy. Idle paws and teeth can mean bad news for your possessions, but Kongs and interactive toys can prevent any devilish behavior.

• Build a cleaning kit. Be ready for all manner of mess with an enzyme cleaner to erase stains and smells and a gentle shampoo for bath time.

• Make walking comfortable for everyone. If you have a stubborn pup like ours, a vest-style harness and retractable, locking leash keep everyone safer.

• Take the guesswork out of feeding. Especially if you have a small dog, a kitchen scale will ensure your dog is getting the right amount of food at every meal.

• Be ready for adventure. Have the right carrier, pouch, backpack or car accessories on hand to make routine trips and special outings easier and safer.
