We’ve All Been Sold a Lie

Two things caught our attention this week, and they couldn’t be more different.

First, SpaceX launched what’s essentially a 400-foot skyscraper into the sky and then caught it on the way down. It’s incredible and frankly hard to fathom:

No matter how you feel about Musk (love him, hate him, or confused by his baby names), you have to admit — moments like this should make you proud to be American. We’re still pushing boundaries and leading the way in big, bold ideas.

But here’s the thing.

We’ve all been trained to think success in life means only chasing ideas like these — the biggest ideas. That either you build the next Facebook or you aim for Mars. Anything else isn’t worthy.

Bullsh*t. Today’s biggest dirty secret: there’s a rising generation of millionaires who aren’t working on the next app, they’re going to trade school and unclogging your toilet.

The WSJ dropped a far less glamorous, but equally interesting story about “America’s New Millionaire Class.” And guess what? It wasn’t referring to tech titans, venture capitalists, app developers, or NFT traders — it was all about plumbers and HVAC owners.

Yup, the guys and gals fixing your furnace and quietly building 7-figure empires in the process. But you already knew that, cause you’re one of us.

You already know that the Main Street Millionaire’s path isn’t easy. That it requires real sacrifice, and an enormous amount of grit, and can take shape in 1 million different ways.

But you also know that with the right skills, know-how, and mindset — it actually is possible.

Remember Spencer Scott? Our friend who went from owning a software business to, well… owning a trash business?

Spencer saw an opportunity and rapidly scaled to a truck, bins, customers, and very real revenue. Mind you, he’d never had a blue-collar job before, and, oh yeah, his wife was about to give birth.

We don’t recommend trying that exactly, and neither does Spencer. But we do recommend thinking like Spencer and learning how to seize a Main Street opportunity from right under your nose.

And now? The man is well on his way to owning a business that could one day mint him a Main Street Millionaire. It makes you wonder — could I do it, too?
