First 1000 - ◼️ Don’t invest in dark mode
Hello friends 👋, Welcome back to #First1000, the newsletter that analyzes trends across the top 100 apps on the App Store to help you make data-informed decisions. Today, I want to convince you that dark mode is a vitamin, not a painkiller, and you shouldn’t invest in it unless you have a ton of resources with nothing better to do. What does the data say about dark mode support amongst the top 100 apps?
From analyzing the top 100 apps, we see that only half support dark and light modes, and even then, about 12% of them force you to go to settings to enable dark mode. If it had been the incredible thing that Reddit made it out to be, companies with thousands of engineers and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue would have invested more in it!
