Today, Apple’s glitzy new in-house artificial intelligence is available to the public with the latest iOS update. The long-awaited features promise to do everything from writing your emails, to editing your photos, to transcribing your calls and beyond.

After testing a prerelease version of Apple Intelligence for the last few weeks, we think it’s … just fine. Some of the features are real advancements, but for the most part, they’re half-baked and not particularly useful. As senior staff writer Max Eddy puts it: “The highly touted AI-transformed future still seems a long way off.”
