Important update on the future of The Intercept

Ten years ago, eBay founder and philanthropist Pierre Omidyar provided funding to launch The Intercept as a home for fearless and ambitious investigative journalism.

With this visionary support, we immediately began breaking stories that sent shockwaves through capitals and corporate boardrooms around the world — in many cases, stories that the mainstream media would never touch.

We’re now entering a new era for The Intercept, and to continue for another decade, we’ll need your help.

Next year, our founding donor will wrap up after a decade of generous investment, and we will transition to a primarily reader-funded nonprofit news outlet.

We want to be clear that we’ve known from the start that this day would come. It was never our plan to rely on one single source of funding forever, nor would that be a healthy model for any journalistic operation. And the generous support we’ve received from our founding donor has helped us prepare for this moment.

But in order to solidify our financial position as we head into 2025, we’re pushing hard to raise $625,000 by January 1. This year-end fundraising drive is a critical part of how we plan to fund our operations in the year to come, and now more than ever, falling short is not an option.
