Donald Trump wins. We have a lot of work to do.

America — and the world — are waking up to a truly frightening future.

Today, America — and the world — are waking up to a truly frightening future.

The next president of the United States is a man who will undoubtedly give Benjamin Netanyahu a green light to continue and accelerate his bloody genocide in Gaza.

A lawless authoritarian who has pledged the mass deportation of 20 million people, including millions of children and families that have lived and worked in the United States for years.

An adjudicated rapist who says he will mobilize the U.S. military against American citizens exercising their First Amendment right to protest, and who will weaponize the Justice Department to jail journalists and persecute political opponents.

There’s no sugarcoating it. This is a dark moment for America and the world, and the worst is very likely yet to come.

So what now?

First, let us tell you what The Intercept is NOT going to do. We’re not going to let any billionaire owner tell us to stop writing stories criticizing Donald Trump. Because we don’t have one.

We’re going to keep doing what we’ve always done. Fearless, adversarial investigative journalism to hold the wealthy and powerful to account.

Standing up to dictators is nothing new for us. We have experience covering brutal authoritarians. We’ve broken stories from countries where reporters are routinely targeted for assassination by the government. We’ve been sued by billionaires trying to quash our reporting. We’ve had sources persecuted by governments for the crime of telling the truth.

We don’t rattle easily, and we’re not afraid of Trump. But we have a hell of a lot of work to do, and that work starts right now, first thing, this minute.

So if you’re with us, please donate $5 and help support the hard-hitting investigative journalism of The Intercept in this dark and dangerous moment for democracy and the world.

Thank you,
The Intercept team
