The reelection of Donald Trump has given Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a green light to accelerate Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. In fact, he’s already begun. Over the last month, as the U.S. news media was entirely consumed with the election, Israel launched a massive new bombing campaign in northern Gaza and banned the U.N. agency responsible for providing food, water, and other basic needs to Palestinians. Last week, the U.N. warned that “the entire Palestinian population in North Gaza, especially children, is at imminent risk of dying,” and the American news media barely batted an eye. Then, on Election Day, the Israeli military said that it is getting closer to the “complete evacuation” of northern Gaza, and residents would not be allowed to return — the final step in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: It’s not hard to see where this is headed. Just listen to Trump’s son-in-law and former senior adviser Jared Kushner, who argued in March that Israel should expel the Palestinian population of Gaza to the Negev desert. “Gaza’s waterfront property could be very valuable,” Kushner mused, adding that Israel should “move the people out and then clean it up.” From the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, The Intercept has been one of the few U.S. outlets willing to challenge the pro-Israel consensus that dominates most major news media coverage and shine a light on the unimaginable human suffering being inflicted on the Palestinian people. Going forward, with Donald Trump — a man who uses the word “Palestinian” as an epithet — that work becomes even more vital and difficult. And as a nonprofit news outlet, we rely on donations from readers to power our reporting. Will you donate $5 to enable The Intercept’s ongoing reporting on Israel’s war on Gaza? Thank you,
