Correction.

In our coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris’s concession speech on Thursday, we incorrectly identified Senator Bernie Sanders as (D-VT). As most readers will know, the Vermont senator is not a Democrat but an unaffiliated independent who caucuses with the Democrats. In a busy week stuffed with coverage, all of our editors missed this small but important detail. We will be catching up on sleep today to ensure future small but important details are stated correctly.

This is our 118th correction in Tangle's 275-week history and our first correction since September 30th. We track corrections and place them at the top of the newsletter in an effort to maximize transparency with readers.

In the madness of election week, we forgot to note that we are off for Veteran's Day today. As longtime readers know, the Tangle team observes all federal bank holidays, and also takes a couple "recesses" throughout the year around major holidays and congressional breaks (if Congress can take recesses, why can’t we as news reporters and consumers?).

Today is Veterans Day, which comes on November 11 every year and honors the cessation of fighting between the Allied nations and Germany at the end of World War I (you can read more here). Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day is an opportunity to honor all of those who served (both living and deceased) during times of war and peace. Roughly 15.8 million veterans are alive in the U.S. today, making up about 6.1% of the U.S. population. 

While we are off today, we still wanted to provide you with a little bit of content. So, below, we've compiled a list of some of recent publications and interviews that you might be interested in, as well as today's "quick hits."

• On Friday, we published an election-focused reader mailbag newsletter. 1. The Justice Department announced federal charges against a man alleged to have been instructed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump. The man, Farhad Shakeri, is still at large in Iran. The Justice Department also charged two American citizens with helping the Iranian government surveil a U.S. citizen of Iranian origin. 2. President Joe Biden will meet with President-elect Trump on Wednesday at the White House, where he will reportedly lobby Trump to maintain support for Ukraine in its war against Russia. (The meeting) The Washington Post reported that Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and advised the Russian president not to escalate the war in Ukraine. (The conversation) Separately, Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who reportedly felt reassured by the conversation. Elon Musk also joined the call. (The conversation)
3. Ukraine carried out its biggest drone strike on Moscow, Russia’s capital, since the start of the war, forcing flights to be diverted from three of the city's major airports and injuring at least five people. Russia launched a record 145 drones toward Ukraine on Sunday. (The strikes) 
4. The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced that it would pause efforts to mediate a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, suggesting neither side showed a willingness to end the war. Qatari officials reportedly told Hamas political leaders they were no longer welcome in the country due to the stalled negotiations. (The announcement) Separately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had spoken to President-elect Trump three times since his electoral victory and plans to send Israel’s Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer to meet with Trump at Mar-a-Lago this week. (The discussions)
5. The Mountain Fire, which is burning northwest of Los Angeles, forced the evacuation of more than 10,000 people and has destroyed more than 130 structures in the area. Local officials said the fire was 31% contained as of Sunday evening. (The fire)
6. SENATE UPDATE: Jacky Rosen (D) defeated Sam Brown (R) in Nevada’s Senate race, and Dave McCormick (R) defeated Bob Casey (D) in Pennsylvania’s Senate race, according to The Associated Press. (The call; the call) Separately, Decision Desk HQ projected that Ruben Gallego (D) will defeat Kari Lake (R) in Arionza’s Senate race. (The projection)
