The Husk By Jasmine Stole Weiss - Jaycee Nolan speaks social media
Jaycee Nolan speaks social mediaThe business owner from Palau was named a Soho House creative fellowJaycee Nolan is fluent in social media, and the Palauan business owner is working to help others grow their brands online. Jaycee, who goes by Jaes, founded The Nolan Net in 2022. On the company website, Jaes describes a life fascinated by media – from the VHS tapes of her grandfather’s video store in Palau to her first gig as a production assistant for a local news station. Now, Jaes is using her production, videography and photography skills with her digital marketing experience to help brands navigate the vast social media landscape. “I have seen myself as a curator/creator of art from a very young age. Growing in the digital world, I found it so fascinating and seamless to mix what I know and love with the world of sales and marketing,” Jaes, 28, told The Husk. Jaes worked as a digital marketing manager in 2017, and she’s zeroed in on the industry, branching out and creating her company The Nolan Net. The Nolan Net offers social media management, videography services and printed marketing material. Jaes has worked with a range of clients in different industries from real estate to fashion to music. “My business just meant I had opportunities to serve people who really needed the support for their small businesses,” she said, adding that the work is gratifying. “I love the challenge.” Different platforms require different approaches on social media. And there’s no shortage of content online. For companies or organizations, sometimes trying to find an audience can seem like an uphill battle. Jaes said with this in mind, it’s vital for business owners and brands to investigate their audience’s needs. “If you are a business owner who wants to leverage social media to market your brand, learn your target audience inside and out and exactly what their needs are,” she said. If that seems daunting, Jaes said she can help. She has years of experience and over 3,300 followers on Instagram and counting. “I read people very well, and I love being able to translate a brand through captivating visual storytelling,” she said. I love being able to translate a brand through captivating visual storytelling. In addition to her videography skills, Jaes said she leans on her background in the performing arts and her experience as an actor and model to get her clients to be comfortable in front of the camera, which is pretty much essential to operating on social media. For Jaes, part of the satisfaction of being a social media manager comes from seeing her clients succeed. “I take pride in and I love to see them hit milestones in their business,” she said. Recently Jaes was named a Creative Futures Collective and Soho House fellow. The fellowship is geared toward creatives and is a yearlong program that offers mentorship and support for people in underrepresented or disenfranchised communities, according to the Soho House website. She announced her selection on Nov. 1 and said she was excited to network with more creatives through the fellowship. With years of content creation under her belt, Jaes said she’s learned some lessons along the way. “Everyone’s first video sucks. You only get better after your first video,” she said. She urged aspiring Micronesian brand strategists to find a niche or an industry that they love and start there. “You are a content creator driving to help other business owners manage their content; find a niche/industry that you love, and start with that. Find a business within that niche and offer trial services to build your portfolio but also to get a really good understanding of the job at hand,” Jaes said. “Managing a brand’s/business’ online presence can mean essentially shaping the face of their business. Put yourself in their shoes, and treat their business like you would your own.” Support JaesFollow Jaes on Instagram @yourdigitalbestie.jaes and follow The Nolan Net online @thenolannet or at www.thenolannet.com.
