The Intercept - The Intercept is under attack

There’s never been a more difficult and dangerous time to run an independent news organization.

Every day, The Intercept produces the hard-hitting, adversarial investigative journalism that the world so desperately needs in this moment. But there’s never been a more difficult, dangerous, or expensive time to run an investigative news organization.

Billionaires like Erik Prince have weaponized libel law to attack The Intercept and other news outlets producing journalism they don’t like. Congress is moving legislation that would allow Donald Trump to strip our tax-exempt nonprofit status with the stroke of a pen. And around the world, 2024 has been a deadly year for journalists — especially those reporting bravely from Gaza.

Which brings us to the reason we’re writing today. This Tuesday, December 3, is Giving Tuesday, one of the most important fundraising days of the year, and given the threats we’re facing, we’ve set an especially ambitious Giving Tuesday goal of $225,000.

That means we’ll be sending a LOT of fundraising emails over the next three days.

Now, we understand that no one reads The Intercept for our fundraising emails. So we’re going to let you in on a little secret: If you donate right now, the email address you enter with your donation will be automatically excluded from the rest of our Giving Tuesday campaign.

That’s right. You can stand with The Intercept and help support our high-impact investigative reporting and avoid the deluge of fundraising emails — if you act now.

If you love journalism but hate fundraising emails, make a donation to The Intercept right now, and we won’t send you any more emails like this one for the rest of the campaign.

Thank you,
The Intercept team
