Switch Weekly - #183: Your Definitive Nintendo Update
Shulkin. | ![]() Hey, issue #183 of your weekly Switch digest, with the week in Nintendo news. A ton of great games hit the Switch this week, including Minecraft Dungeons, BugFables and the definite edition of Xenoblade Chronicles. As such, plenty of reviews to dig into in the issue below. As for next week, there are just over 15 games hitting the eShop, including 51 Worldwide Classics (I'm hyped!), and The Outer Worlds. Last week I picked up the Split Pad Pro controller from Hori, it was released alongside Daemon X Machina last year, but was recently discounted so I decided to grab one and take it for a spin. I really dig it, especially in games such as Overwatch — although it feels a bit overkill for weeding in Animal Crossing. 😅 Oh, and before I go, let me tell you about The Pause Button. Sure, I may be biased, but as you may know, I love a good email newsletter — being able to catch up with things at my leisure is a real win for me. Anyway, The Pause Button is an excellent digest bringing together a real diverse mix of gaming related content, in addition to original opinion pieces. I particularly enjoyed this recent article on the Smash Bros esports scene from Alexander Lee. Sound good? You can subscribe here. Anyway, that's all from me — catch you next week, REVIEW Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition: A strong new version of a modern classic — The spruced up defintive edition "lives up to its name, providing the absolute best version of this modern Japanese RPG classic to date". Lots of other glowing reviews, including this from VGC, and this one from Miketendo 64 (who also has a handful of guides worth checking out if you're currently playing this). Oh, and Digital Foundry have done their usual tech analysis comparing this Switch version to the Wii original. Alex Donaldson // VG247 REVIEW Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling — Sure, this creepy-crawly RPG wears its "inspirations proudly on its sleeve" but adds in "its own experiences that are both meaningful and fun". In general this turn-based affair has reviewed very well - looks like a must for Paper Mario fans. Xander Morningstar // Nintendo World Report ▶ Wholesome Direct— Don't let the name fool you, this presentation is nothing to do with Nintendo. Instead, this is a showreel of cute and cozy indie games on the horizon, with a whole ton of them bound for the Switch. Don't want to watch the whole thing? This Redditor picked out the Switch-only titles. Wholesome Games // YouTube There’s always a lighthouse. There’s always BioShock Switch impressions Ari Notis // Kotaku Knight Squad is coming to the Nintendo Switch— Out next week. It's a great party game that you shouldn't skip if you're big into local multiplayer. I've probably sunk 100+ hours into the Xbox One version (back when going to an office was a thing we all did....) Chainsawesome Games on Twitter REVIEW Minecraft Dungeons — This dungeon crawler "has plenty of Mojang character and humour" plus plenty of "charming references to the original Minecraft". However, this review from The Independent noted that "If it looks like Minecraft and smells like Minecraft, you’re probably going to end up wishing you were just playing Minecraft instead".
