As 2024 ends, support fairness in journalism
No images? Click here Dear Reader, Every year, dictionaries and the media publicize their words of the year. A smattering from 2024: Brain Rot. Demure. Polarization. Brat. Manifest. Here at The Conversation we have our own word for 2024 (and 2025 as well): Fairness. Sure, it’s not in viral TikToks or Instagram hashtags, but it carries a profound meaning in the world we live in. To our team, it means the stories we produced with the support of readers like you this year and in the coming year are balanced. We go to great lengths to ensure that the journalism is fair and what we bring you is based on evidence and considerable research - sometimes done over years, if not decades. We strive for stories that do not spout judgment or tell you what to think. Stories that give you accurate information so you can make up your own mind. That is why I am asking you, if you can afford it, to support our work before time runs out. I know you’ve been asked before. But please know as a nonprofit organization, we need to do this to fulfill our mission to deliver research-based news for free to over 1,000 news outlets. ![]() Partner with us to continue to fight the flood of misinformation and misinformation (and even expand our work in 2025) with stories that are fair and evidence-based. We are still $10,000 away from our year-end goal. Every dollar counts. I wish you health and happiness in the New Year. With thanks, ![]() Beth Daley PS: We know you’re not supporting us for the gifts, but we do have some goodies to share. We are giving away three e-books as a way of saying thank you to our supporters − one featuring the year's biggest hits, one on wisdom from ancient texts and one on the future of work. If you make a major gift of $1,000, then we’ll be sending you the latest book in the Critical Conversations series − on work − published by Johns Hopkins, as a thank you! How to donate:
