A low-maintenance humidifier we love

Our top pick for the best humidifier, the Levoit LV600S Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier.
Michael Hession/NYT Wirecutter

The dead of winter is prime time for movie nights, favorite sweaters, and if you’re lucky, a snow day or two. But it’s also prime time for some less romantic stuff, too: dry sinuses, nosebleeds, chapped lips, and more. A humidifier may provide some relief by releasing gradual, consistent moisture throughout a room—without turning it into a hazy swamp.

We’ve tested dozens of humidifiers over the years, and we’ve found one that comes pretty close to the ideal. Our top pick is nearly silent, powerful, and durable. But perhaps most importantly, it’s fairly easy to clean, which is crucial to prevent it from becoming a cesspool of bacteria. Gross.
