Folyo - "Agencies are dying."

I haven't really done contract work in a while. However, I was recently in discussion with the course app Podia about creating an email campaign writing service. (Podia is the app I use to run Folyo's newsletter, courses, and community.)

And while this would technically be freelance work, it would be productized. The scope of work and price would be pre-set (and defined) by me. There wouldn't be a proposal sent, for example.

This got me thinking about how productized services had a moment a few years back but I haven't heard too much about them of late. Then, I came across this X post:

The author is a designer who created a very successful design subscription service a while back.

Now, I don't entirely agree with his sentiment. There is obviously a lot more to an agency delivering a website project than this.

And I have proof.

My design agency leads service. We literally sort through not hundreds ... but thousands of clients desperately in need of agency website design work. (And by the way, the budgets are often more like $75K-100K.)

There hasn't been a huge dip in the demand I've seen. And I've detailed exactly what the market looked like in 2024.
