Note from the Editor

Hi ,

Black lives matter.

As a team, we stand with the Black community in our commitment to speaking up against systemic, institutionalized, and internalized racism. This week's newsletter — and more to come — will be devoted to exactly that.

There’s a lot of work to be done (especially for non-Black folks like myself) and actionable conversations to be had to unwind the harm caused by centuries of racism in the U.S. and beyond. This unwinding doesn’t happen in one day or a week, it’s an ongoing effort we have a responsibility to commit to and sustain.

And sustainable action begins with self-care, which after all, has radical and activist roots. “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare,” the feminist Audre Lorde wrote in her 1988 book of essays, A Burst of Light

I'd love to reshare what author and poet Alexandra Elle said this past week: “Community: Don’t forget to rest so that when you show up, you’re restored, nourished, and replenished. To my fellow black folks, you deserve to unwind. Don’t forget to show up for yourself. Don’t forget to eat. Don’t forget to hydrate. Don’t forget that your mental health is important. Remember to move your body. Come back to breathe. To lean into mini moments of joy + gratitude. Yes to action, but also yes to rest. Harmonize doing both.”

We rest so we can act. I hope we can all remember this as we continue this important work towards equality and justice.

Standing in Solidarity,
Alisha Ramos
Founder, Girls’ Night In

P.S. At the bottom of today's issue, we've shared some commitments we've made and will continue to make. We value tying words to actions, and hope this week's issue inspires you to do the same.

our commitments

We believe in tying our words to specific actions. This past week, we’ve donated $1,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative and The Bail Project

We’ll also be donating 5% of the sponsorship revenue gained from today’s newsletter to The Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund founded by Rachel Cargle, which provides access to high quality, culturally competent mental health services for Black women and girls.

As a company founded on the values of wellness and mental health, we recognize the economic barriers Black women and girls face in accessing therapy and seek to help to lower these barriers.

We encourage you to join us in acting and promise to keep thinking critically about how we can create long-term impact within our team and externally as well. As an organization, we know we have work to do internally and in our GNI ecosystem as well. If you have feedback for us, we welcome it with a reply to this email. Thank you.
