Qdrant is a German startup that provides an open-source vector database.

The power of AI is based on finding relationships between data. In today’s world, that includes immense amounts of unstructured, real-time data—predictions say there will be 175 zettabytes of unstructured data this year.

That’s where Qdrant’s vector database comes in. The database, written in Rust, stores unstructured data like video, audio, and images in numerical representations. It’s then able to organize the unstructured data based on similarities.  

(Search volume for “vector similarity search” has increased over 150% in the past two years.)

LLMs can search a vector database like Qdrant to discover relationships in real-time. Even if the AI was trained several years ago, it can extend its knowledge if it connects to a Qdrant vector database and finds similarities between the query and the unstructured data.

Qdrant offers its database via managed, hybrid, and private cloud options.

The startup raised $28M in funding in early 2024.
