Having a Moment

Over the last few years, Piero Portaluppi's 1930s Villa Necchi (you know it from Luca Guadagnino’s I Am Love) has become the “it” architectural tour for stylish people visiting Milan. Its bathrooms have served as selfie backdrops. Its rooms have been picked apart by TikTokkers. And along with that ascent in popularity, its signature palette—deep green and merlot marble paired with rich woodtones like walnut or rosewood—has become a recipe for success in interiors across the spectrum.

Not surprisingly, the look has trickled into the pages of AD, most recently in the Brooklyn home of model Paloma Elsesser, whose kitchen boasts a verdi alpi-and-walnut island and whose to-die-for bathroom is paneled in delicious slabs of burgundy marble. Proof that red and green can be seriously chic together—so long as you get the shades right.
