Dear Emily,

When I was watching the new season of The White Lotus with my husband, there was a moment when I turned to him and said, “That’s you.” Parker Posey’s character had given her husband anti-anxiety meds, overcoming his anti-prescription, anti-medication hardline sentiment. And he liked them! My husband laughed. 

Years into our relationship, I was diagnosed with ADHD, and I love to talk about it all the time, since getting diagnosed as an adult is not that typical and really helped me become a Real Person. But a lot of the issues that pushed me to get help, my husband also has. Except he’s an anti-psych-drugs, anti-big-pharma leftist who thinks ADHD meds are addictive and harming a generation of otherwise serious thinkers. Despite feeling that way, he agreed a few months ago to try my meds. And lo and behold, they help him get work done and pay attention to conversations. How do I convince my husband to go to a shrink and get his own diagnosis and his own prescription, rather than continuing to steal my pills?
