UI Freebies + What is the Von Restorff Effect?

Hey you!

I hope you're having a great week!

Last weekend we were on a forced holiday in Stavanger. Long story short, we had to take a 5-hour drive to get some paperwork done. So, we thought we'll make the most of it and drive there earlier to have a full day of looking around.

An important thing to keep in mind about Norway is that Norwegians don't play around with their holidays and off time. That means very early closing times. It means a total shutdown on Sunday. No malls, no shops, no markets.

With that in mind, we embarked on a long journey to Stavanger. A 5-hour drive with 2 ferry boat rides. The excitement was brewing!

The road was calm, the view was beautiful, but the closer we got to Stavanger the worse the weather got. After 5 hours the excitement wore off a little bit and we were just happy that we arrived.

We found parking close to the hotel and we were ready to check-in.

We parked the car. Opened the trunk to take out our luggage.

No luggage. Empty trunk.

Desperation quickly turns into laughter - at a certain point, all you can do is laugh at yourself.

It was time to put that problem-solving skill to use that we keep including in our CVs to fill space.

Malls and shops are already closed, but we had 35 minutes until the last supermarkets closed as well.

Google to the rescue! We checked out the most probable supermarkets to be selling clothes as well as basic hygiene items, set a Google Maps destination, and hit the road.

We arrived at the supermarket 10 minutes before closing time racing through the shelves and packing items like it was a robbery.

All's well that ends well though. We were able to put that problem-solving skill to use and the only thing that got hurt was our dignity. When we arrived at the counter we looked like two fugitives leaving behind a life of crime and regrets.

Now that I told you a little adventure from the weekend, let me give you some useful info as well.

I created a short Twitter thread about the Von Restorff Effect that you can read here!

Also, last week's UI resources are attached - I hope you'll find them useful!
