  • Fallout 4 is an action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
  • The game is set within an open world post-apocalyptic environment that encompasses the city of Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region known as 'The Commonwealth'. The main story takes place in the year 2287, ten years after the events of Fallout 3 and 210 years after 'The Great War', which caused catastrophic nuclear devastation across the United States.
  • The player assumes control of a character referred to as the 'Sole Survivor', who emerges from a long-term cryogenic stasis in Vault 111, an underground nuclear fallout shelter.

PlayStation State of Play Summary
Yesterday's show was all about the third party published games coming to PS4 and PS VR. Additionally, there were a few PS5 game updates on third-party and indie titles that we last saw in June's Future of Gaming PS5 showcase.
  • We started off with an in-depth gameplay look for Crash Bandicoot 4 It's About Time!
  • Then we got a trailer for Hitman...the entire trilogy is coming to PSVR!
  • Then we got an announcement for Braid Anniversary Edition
  • Then we moved on to The Pathless and got a quick glimpse at some gameplay
  • Spelunky 2 got an in-depth gameplay showcase
  • Then we got some pretty quick trailers for Genshin Impact, AEON Must Die and Anno Mutationem
  • Bugsnax got its gameplay reveal and the game will be in First Person View
  • Then we got a release date for Vader Immortal which is August 25th
  • and a release date trailer for the Control Expansion: AWE which is coming August 27th!!!
  • Then we got a look at Auto Chess and The Pedestrian
  • Then we got a 2 reveal trailers for PlayStation 5: Hood: Outlaws & Legends and Temtem
  • And then we ended the show with a closer look at the world and the weapons of Godfall

Switch eShop is Oversaturated
Following its launch way back in 2017, the Switch's eShop has become a key marketplace for indie titles. With a quick perusal of the top-selling games at any moment being bound to show a selection of such games sitting alongside Nintendo's first-party goliaths.

Despite its undeniable success, many developers have concerns about discoverability on the platform.

Joseph Humfrey, the co-founder of Inkle (creators of 80 Days and the upcoming Pendragon) and Mike Rose, founder of No More Robots (publisher of Descenders and Yes Your Grace), explain to us how the core design at the heart of the shop is making it difficult for developers to bring attention to their games, and what can be done about it.

"In terms of organic discoverability, the main problem with the eshop is that it's simply too basic. There's such a small number of pages where you can be featured, that it massively limits the breadth of potential discovery.

"Yes, they have a Discover page, but it's just one page, where games of all genres and types have to fight for visibility. Beyond that, they have Recent Releases (which you're guaranteed to be on, albeit for a very limited period of time), Current Offers (which appears to be full of games that are... gaming the system), and the Charts (which doesn't even break down into genres as other stores do)."

Humfrey estimates that the eShop is going to look like the App Store - tons of cheap-looking titles that were clearly thrown together in the space of a few months, all selling at a dollar each.
