How to increase your engagement on Instagram 📈

Twitter has rolled out its new 'Quote Tweets' count on the main tweet display

Remember the “Retweet with comment” count on Twitter? It’s time to say farewell! Twitter is replacing "Retweets with comments" with "Quote Tweets." As pictured below, this new engagement metric sits alongside the tweet’s existing ‘Retweets’ and ‘Likes’ counts. 

Is this a good thing? Back in the day, ‘Retweets’ and ‘Quote Tweets’ were included in a single count on the main display, which meant that conversations that were happening outside of the comments were difficult to find. By adding this new engagement count, Twitter is making it easier to view full tweet response activity at a glance, which could help to provide more context, as well as a whole new engagement metric. 

As Twitter explains:

“Tweets about a Tweet add more to the conversation, so we’ve made them even easier to find.”

The “New Facebook” design is a headache for marketers

In September, the “New Facebook” design will replace the “Classic Facebook” design for everyone. But Facebook users have been very critical of the new interface. Here are some of the reasons why the new design has been hard to adapt to for marketers:

• There are still multiple ways to access the Facebook Pages you manage, which many marketers have said seems excessive and makes it feel like there are too many clicks involved.
• Creator Studio and Publishing Tools are both in the left sidebar of a Page you manage, despite the fact that Facebook has been pushing marketers to use Creator Studios for publishing social media content.
• The Page tabs, such as Events, Photos, and Videos, that a visitor sees once they land on a Page are now listed horizontally below the cover photo. A Page shows the first four of these tabs and the rest are hidden under a “More” dropdown menu, forcing Page managers to be more thoughtful about the order of their tabs. 

Takeaway: The “New Facebook” interface has left many marketers confused and upset. Not only does the navigation feel like it needs more streamlining, but many of the issues from the “Classic Facebook” interface persist in the update.

In a recent study of over 22 million Instagram posts, Socialinsider found that carousels are the most engaging type of post on Instagram. According to their study results, carousels have an average engagement rate per post of 1.92%, compared to 1.74% for images and 1.45% for videos. Here are some of the key findings: 

1️⃣ The engagement rate per post goes over 2% when all 10 carousel slides are used

2️⃣ A combination of images and videos in the same carousel is found to generate the highest engagement rate per post (2.33%)
3️⃣ Even carousels with only videos are found to produce a slightly higher engagement rate than images alone (1.86% vs 1.80%)

Major takeaway? The next time you’re posting a carousel to Instagram try to include at least one video.
