A financial self-care checklist

September is Self-Care Awareness Month. And while self-care looks different for us all, it’s safe to say we should all be taking extra good care of ourselves — mentally, physically, and financially — after the last few months.

In a year of so much adversity in so many areas of our life, it’s easy to let financial self-care fall off our to-do lists. But money was people’s #1 source of stress before a global pandemic and recession hit.

That’s why we put together a financial self-care checklist for you.

In one study, 73% of people who had clear financial goals also said they had lower stress levels. And raise your hand if lower stress levels sound good right about now. But seriously, money touches every area of our life — so when we take care of ourselves financially, we’re likely to feel the positive repercussions in other areas, too.

Here’s to prioritizing all forms of self-care this fall.

Getting a clear sense of where you’re at financially and where you want to go, then creating a regular practice to help get there — while being kind to yourself along the way.

ICYMI: The idea of self-care was born out of adversity. Audre Lorde said in “A Burst of Light: and Other Essays” that “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
