Forbes - Economic Good News And Bad News

Some good news for the economy as we head into the long holiday weekend-- the Labor Department announced today that the U.S. added 1.4 million jobs in August, bringing unemployment down to 8.4%. This is a decent-sized recovery, considering unemployment in April was at a staggering 14.7%. Unfortunately, there’s still some bad news. Despite August’s gains the pace of recovery is slowing down compared to earlier this summer thanks to the expiration of federal stimulus benefits. And not all industries are recovering in the same way. The food service industry has been hit particularly hard during the pandemic, and a new report from the New York State Restaurant Association forecasts that 64% of restaurants in the state could shut down permanently by the end of the year.

P.S. I’ll be back with the newsletter on Tuesday, I hope you have a relaxing and safe holiday weekend.
