August wrapped in a spectacular fashion. Apple and Tesla’s stock split went into effect, the Dow rolled out its updated index, and all major indices finished in the green. Did the momentum continue into September? Not so much. A tech sell-off barrelled through the second half of the week, likely a symptom of the sector becoming overvalued.

As for what our AI recommends for stocks and ETFs, American Airlines Group Inc (AAL) has landed on our Top Shorts list for the next 30 days. Some experts believe the Airline industry will not fully recover until 2024, and while American Airlines hasn’t gone through layoffs, it warns that there could be up to 19,000 by October 1.

At the heels of a major sell-off, the tech-forward Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) ETF has been rated Top Short for the next 7 days. For those who would prefer to avoid stocks altogether, Shares U.S Treasury Bond (GOVT) is rated Top Buy for the next 7 days while the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) has been rated Top Buy for the next 30 days. We’ll start to see how the rest of the month shapes up after the long weekend.

Options trades to focus on:

Short Put Spread in iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB) - Great leveraged trade to get exposure to innovation in the Biotech sector, especially around any developments regarding a vaccine for the Coronavirus.

Long Call in Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF)  –  Vanilla options trade to get exposure to the Financials Sector which has been underperforming the overall stock market.  Low implied volatility levels make the convexity of a payout from a long call much more attractive than simply buying the ETF outrightly.
