Note from the Editor

Hi ,

How are you? I hope you're okay. Personally, these last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. Some exciting updates: I moved into a new home, got married (!), went on a mini-moon, made sure I was registered to vote. All this on top of work things!! This season can be a lot, but especially right now...I’m finding the importance of finding moments to slow down and give myself a little more room to breathe.

With that said, I’m excited to share something the team and I’ve been working on the past few years that embraces this mentality of slowing down:

Please say hello to Whiled. 🐌⏳

Whiled is a new sibling brand of Girls’ Night In that creates goods designed for downtime or a perfect cozy night in. This week, we launched our first collection of puzzles, which we designed with four artists we love — we hope you'll love them too. 🎉🎉

Whiled believes it’s time to bring real leisure back — the kind that isn’t stuffed at the bottom of a to-do list (which, if you’re a regular reader of GNI — you know I’m guilty of doing! I need Whiled in my life 🙂). Remember daydreaming, playing, and disappearing down rabbit holes? That is Whiled. I'm so excited to share our first collection with you (pictured above). Here's what we've been working on...

1. Sunny Side Up: 🍳 We worked on Sunny Side Up with our at-home, extra-butter-on-my-toast weekend brunch-lovers in mind. Designed by Portland-based illustrator Lan Truong, it harkens back to one of our favorite simple weekend activities: gathering around a table, yolks up. It's also our most surrealist piece. Like pastels? This one's for you.

2. Spot the Teckel: 🐕  Minimalists, art-enthusiasts, and dog lovers will find common ground on this puzzle, brought to life by fine artist BD Graft. It makes me happy every time I look at it, probably because, much like Whiled, it combines calming tones with small pops of color. IMHO, it's the most perfect one to glue and frame up on a gallery wall.

3. Busy Bodies: 🚕 Who remembers Richard Scarry books from childhood? We designed Busy Bodies, along with artist Tess Smith Roberts, with those books in mind. There are small easter eggs and surprises throughout it which are really fun (can you spot the 🐌?) and it's designed to be challenging, but so worth it. I love that it depicts the hustle and bustle of city life and neighborly love, something we're all missing right now. ❤️

4. Ladies Who Lounge: 🎨 This is for our readers who...love to lounge! We wanted this to have super vibrant colors to energize any space. The colors irl are SUPER bright and joyful. It's daring and on-trend and really captured a lot of very GNI feelings, thanks to artist Ana Leovy.

Back in 2017, when I quit my full-time job and sat down to dream up ideas for a business, I kept coming back to the idea of creating products for the perfect night in. I even scribbled down “puzzles” as an idea in an old notebook all those years ago. Fast forward 3+ years, and it's hard to believe we finally have something this special to share with you. Good things take time, and that's what Whiled is here to remind us.

I’m so thrilled, honored, and privileged to be able to continue this journey with you all. Girls’ Night In — the newsletter and community are not going anywhere — we’re just adding to the family. 💫 I hope you follow along with @whiled.co — we have so much more fun in store.

Get whiled,
Alisha Ramos
Founder at GNI (and now Whiled, too!)

P.S. If you're eyeing a Whiled puzzle, we're giving one away on the GNI Instagram right now! 👀

raise your hand if you could taste this picture (via @mollyyeh)
  1. Welcome to simmer season... 🥕 "It doesn't quite feel like fall yet on the west coast, but that isn't stopping me from taking part in some of my favorite fall traditions. This weekend, I'm making SOUP. This is the gingery, coconuty sweet-potato based stew of my dreams, and I can't wait for how good my apartment's going to smell after I make it." - Jenny, Partnerships Team

  2. If you're craving a slow Saturday... 🧩 "Right now, I'm most excited about my new weekend morning routine: A cozy breakfast and a puzzle to match." - Olivia, Community Team

  3. A fall-themed treat that tastes good AND feels good... ⚡️ Verb's Pumpkin Spice Latte energy bar combines the cozy fall flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, and ginger with the caffeinated power of green tea and organic, all-natural ingredients. Try this limited edition seasonal fave for 50% off when you order their PSL Starter Kit using this link. #SPONSORSTHING
  4. For anyone dreading next weekend's clock switch... ☀️ "I've been eyeing this sun light/therapy light for fall and winter to make the seasonal transition a little less harsh." - Mary Anne, Community Team

  5. The key to staying off your screens... 🧶 "I've realized I tend to stop doomscrolling if my hands are busy, so if anyone needs me the next couple weeks, I'll be knitting this Lucky Dog sweater for my dog, Otis." - Katrina, Partnerships Team
  6. A very comfortable mask to consider... 🏃‍♀️ "Sometimes you just need different masks for different activities. I love these moisture-wicking masks for weekends, when I may be spending a little more time outdoors or getting some fresh air." - Tyler, Content Team

🚨 Bonus rec: If anybody's doing some early holiday shopping, we're eyeing this Five Two Knife Set, which is on sale for $99 (usually $139) today only— and it comes with this Light Grey Apron while supplies last.

What we're watching for a little nostalgia: 🍿
Things you won't be mad about: watching Leslie Jones as the new host for the Supermarket Sweep revamp. She's just as good as you thought she'd be, making this reboot the perfect "turn-on-while-cooking-dinner" show. And good news: The bones of the original series are intact, down to the cheesy matching sweatshirts.

What we're putting on before bed: 🥖
For a little bit of escapism, Damon Dominique’s videos offer a mental trip abroad when hopping on a plane can seem so faraway These Days. Damon’s videos are calm, show the perspective of many different locals, and have more of a documentary feel to them. And if you're looking to practice your French, good news: lots of these videos have French with subtitles in them. 🇫🇷

All the things making us smile this week: 😍
This Wild One giveaway you should enter that includes fanny packs and puppy swag. This guide to pairing wine with your favorite Trader Joe's food items. Just some joyful dancing to make your morning. A painting that was missing for decades was found by a Met visitor. Show me your carrots. Some inspiration to put a hammock in your house (because why not?!). Don't say it don't say it don't say it. Mini gourds! Mums! Fall-ifying your porch! Pumpkin pasta sauce from the jar! Lean into all the fall things right now if they make you happy. There's a reason people love this season so much. 🎃
