Biden Takes Slim Lead In Georgia | Networks Cut Trump’s Election Remarks | Steve Bannon Banned From Twitter

Joe Biden is on the verge of winning Georgia—and the presidential election—after taking a 1,096-vote lead in the state early Friday morning, though the race has yet to be called and is likely headed for a recount.

KEY FACTS

Biden leads Trump by 1,096 votes, according to the New York Times, as of 6:15 a.m. EDT.

President Trump saw his margin over Biden shrink fast in the state over the past day as mail-in ballots, which skew disproportionately Democratic, were tallied.

As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, Trump held a 2.5-point lead over Biden in Georgia, but results from the greater Atlanta metro area and other parts of the state have closed the gap considerably.

According to Associated Press projections, Biden leads Trump 264-214 in the Electoral College count, meaning a victory for Biden in Georgia with its 16 electoral votes would give him 280 electoral votes, and the presidency.

The AP called Arizona for Biden in the early morning Wednesday, but the race has since tightened significantly—if Trump somehow wins Arizona and Biden flips Georgia, the Democrat would still be one electoral vote short of the presidency.

Races in Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania have all yet to be called—if Biden fails to take Georgia a win in any of these states would push him to 270.

SURPRISING FACT

A Democratic presidential candidate has not won Georgia since Bill Clinton in 1992.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

It’s very likely the race in Georgia will head to a recount. Under Georgia election law, a recount does not happen automatically, but a candidate can request one if the final margin between the candidates is less than or equal to 0.5% of the total tally. The candidate must also request a recount within two business days of results being certified, according to ABC News.
