New Yorkers knew Donald Trump first – Politics Weekly

The election is over. Donald Trump has lost. Trump is a man “from, but not of, New York,” as third-generation New Yorker and Columbia University political analyst Lincoln Mitchell writes in a vividly painted portrait of a man who never quite fit in to New York City society. Trump lost four of the five boroughs in both 2016 and 2020, including every Manhattan precinct this year.

Yet more than 70 million Americans voted for Trump in this election and likely feel a sense of loss related to the results. In fact, as University of Tennessee political scientist Christopher Ojeda points out, even those who supported Biden have also lost something: a purpose, a goal to work toward.
