Issue 139 - Y Updates!

Tesla Accessories

Tesla accessories deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2020
It’s that time of the year again and I feel we’ve been taking advantage of discounts all month but nothing can’t beat Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales so… One more year, we’ve partnered with a few brands that we love to bring you the best deals in Tesla accessories. Are you ready?

Teslaquila bottle and shot glasses will be available internationally
Unfortunately, Teslaquila won't be available to purchase internationally, but according to Elon Musk on Twitter, the bottle and a set of shot glasses will be. If you don't know what we're talking about, check it out, it sold out the first day it became available a couple of weeks ago.

FSD Beta

FSD Beta drive in downtown Ann Arbor 📹

Great video by DirtyTesla driving FSD Beta in downtown Ann Arbor. FSD Beta sees things before the driver does, handles lots of vehicles and pedestrians, and does well even on narrow streets (or narrow for US standards anyway). Still lots of room for improvement at roundabouts and turns, and as expected it requires quite a few interventions. I really like how it handles traffic lights and the little details like showing in the screen that it's checking for traffic when turning right on a red light!

FSD Beta drive without disengagements 📹
Version 2020.44.10.2. No disengagements in this video by @teslaownerssv but some speed adjustments. Interesting reactions of FSD in some situations like in minute 4:23 (similar to what I would have done!).

Model Y

[Rumor] Model Y with more range might be coming in 2021

@greentheonly has shared on Twitter that the 2020.44.15 firmware reveals that the Model Y is also getting a new efficiency package in 2021 and that might mean the Model Y 2021 may also come with more range.

Model Y gets auto-dimming side mirrors, USB in the glovebox, and metal scroll wheels 📷

More surprises in the shape of upgrades seem to be coming to the Model Y. Auto-dimming side mirrors, USB in the glovebox, and metal scroll wheels, have been found in a new Model Y delivered in Fremont just this month.

Batteries & EV Adoption

Tesla is adding automatic payment at chargers to facilitate apartment charging and more

Tesla has recently been making moves to enable payments at charging stations in its Destination Charging network, but it also enables charging electric vehicles at apartments. Hopefully, this encourages more places to include chargers!

Sandy Munro breaks down the new 4680 Battery Pack 📹
Sandy Munro recently recreated what he believes will be Tesla's new 4680 Battery Pack and, in this video, he reveals the mockup and explains how the current flows through the pack. He admits that this may not be exactly what Tesla will use in its future vehicles but it could be very similar.

Fremont Police Dept. releases uplifting EV pilot program results
In March 2019, the Fremont Police Department began testing a Tesla Model S 85 that was customized for patrol operations. Testing ended one year later and just this week the test results were released. Here's a quick summary of the most relevant results:

  • It exceeded performance and operational objectives
  • It withstood the rigors of police use requiring minimal maintenance
  • Although the cost was higher than conventional police vehicles, maintenance/repair and fuel savings appears to balance or slightly reduce the overall operating cost

Interview with Elon Musk 📹
A 20-minute interview with Elon Musk where he talks about battery cell production plans in Berlin, original vehicle designs in Berlin and Shanghai, the environmental impact of what Tesla is doing, and more.

What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • EV - Electric Vehicle
