This week’s money mood: Setting intentions for 2021

At Ellevest, we use the term “resolutions” very loosely.

That word is just so … fraught. It comes with a feeling of pressure and a history of failure. 81% of New Year’s resolutions aren’t kept, and the most common day to give them up is January 19.

No, thanks. Money is already women’s #1 source of stress. Why add to that stress around money — especially as we’re coming out of the most stressful year ever?

Instead, we like the word “intentions.” With intentions, you don’t fail. Anything you do is progress. Small wins matter — a lot — and you celebrate them. And when life happens, being flexible about your goals and focused on the long term is way more important than meeting every milestone along the way.

With intentions, you don’t fail, but you do plan. And we’re here to help you do that. This week, we’re talking about some money intentions you can set for 2021.
