Twitter And Facebook Freeze Trump's Accounts | Michelle Peluso Leaves IBM For CVS Health | Mastercard's Raja Rajamannar On Marketing In A Remote World

Greetings and happy new year.

Shortly after President Donald Trump’s supporters invaded the U.S. Capitol to protest the outcome of the presidential election, Twitter removed several of his posts from its platform, as did Facebook for the second time ever. After removing the posts on Wednesday afternoon, Twitter said Trump’s tweets included “repeated and severe violations” of the company’s policies, while a Facebook executive said the president’s video addressing his supporters “contributes to rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence.” Both companies have faced scrutiny for not removing Trump’s posts sharing unfounded claims about the election and pandemic, among other issues.

The actions taken by Twitter and Facebook—as well as YouTube, which also removed the same video—are notable, as they rarely remove content posted by the president. Advertisers have long had concerns with brand safety issues related to violence, hatred and misinformation on social networks. These companies are now tasked with enforcing their policies, even when it comes to the most powerful people on the planet, and the most prominent users on their platforms.

We hope you’re staying healthy as we start off 2021.
