Forbes - (Mostly) Good Vaccine News

Johnson & Johnson released a press release today with the results on how effective its Covid-19 vaccine is-- and the results are encouraging. With only one shot, the vaccine is 66% effective at preventing moderate and severe Covid-19, and 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths for the disease. It’s great to have a new vaccine option in the global arsenal, even though the vaccine has yet to be granted an emergency use authorization by the FDA. And there’s more good vaccine news: a Covid-19 vaccine created by biotech company Novavax seems to be highly effective against the more contagious B.1.1.7 variant of Covid-19 that was discovered in the U.K. Unfortunately, both the J&J and Novavax vaccine struggled more when it came to preventing the 501Y.V2 variant that is circulating now in South Africa.
