While the ex-president continues to claim he won an election he lost, his real estate company is fibbing at scale on its website.

Following The Money

Julie Jenkins Fancelli, the heiress of the Publix grocery fortune, donated about $300,000 to a small group that organized the rally preceding the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to the Wall Street Journal. Jenkins Fancelli, whose family controls an $8.8 billion fortune, is a Republican megadonor who gave over $2 million to the RNC and pro-Trump PACs this campaign cycle.

Another heir, who spent at least $1.4 million on his campaign to claim former GOP Representative
Justin Amash’s congressional seat, voted to impeach Trump. Peter Meijer, whose father and uncle own the $18.1 billion (FY 2020 sales) midwestern supermarket chain Meijer, has already drawn a GOP primary challenger.

Facebook continues to deliberate whether to allow Trump to rejoin its platform, even going so far as to solicit public opinion until February 8th. The final decision, however, will come down to a specially formed independent oversight board.

Cashing In On Contracts

On Tuesday, President Biden announced that his administration will be reviewing an aspect of Trump’s immigration policy that requires migrants seeking asylum at the southern border to be sent back to Mexico shortly after their arrival. To conduct immigration hearings, a New York-based company called Deployed Resources charged the government more than $135 million to build and maintain "tent courts" in 2019. COVID-19 shut down the hearings, but Deployed Resources has still generated nearly $90 million from maintaining the tent during the pandemic. The company can receive up to $62 million more before April 17, when the contract will end.

Around The World

In a rare interview with Turkish media, one of Donald Trump’s former partners admitted the presidency complicated things at the Trump Towers in Istanbul, Turkey. “It is not a good thing to be a friend of the president of the United States, and this is a fact known to many,” said Mehmet Ali Yalcindag, who had mostly evaded questions about his relationship with Trump for the last four years. “It was hard!” Yalcindag is a scion of the Dogan family, which owned the towers before selling them in 2019.
