Glam Slam! AD’s March Issue Has Star Power

Dear AD PRO Community,

AD is extremely fortunate to be invited into the worlds of some of the most famous and fascinating people on the planet—and then to share those visits with our readers. Such glimpses provide unique insights into the passions, pursuits, and everyday lives of these superstars, and, to me, are often more revealing than many celebrity profiles. It takes bravery and trust for well-known personalities to allow AD’s cameras into their cocoons, and it can take a lot of persuading to win them over. Once they open their doors, however, I’m constantly struck by how serious they are about furnishing their homes.

One such example graces the cover of our March issue, which just hit newsstands and social media yesterday: Serena Williams and the seriously glam home she’s created for her family in Florida. Working with her sister Venus and her design firm V Starr, the pair spent three years gut-renovating the waterfront property and transforming it into Serena’s specific vision of nirvana. Amenities include a hidden karaoke bar, a private trophy room, an infinity pool, and an unexpected, airy modern-art gallery where the living room used to be. The one thing conspicuously missing? A tennis court! “I wanted to separate home from work,” Williams told writer Elaine Welteroth. In this age of constant working-from-home, that’s something many of us can relate to!

The issue is full of other fabulous stories, too: An opulent, historic hôtel particulier in Paris by AD100 Hall of Fame design legend Jacques Grange; a witty, maximalist playground for a design-savvy L.A. couple by the newly-inducted AD100 firm Charlap Hyman & Herrero; and the very personal Montecito getaway L.A. decorating doyenne Suzanne Rheinstein has created expressly to suit herself at this precise moment in her life. It is always a privilege to be welcomed into such inspiring and beautiful private homes.
