Forbes - Welcome To AppleUnboxed

Ah, there you are, come on in, I’ve been looking forward to meeting you. A big welcome to AppleUnboxed, a look at Apple Inc., that’s in-depth, insightful and enjoyable, I hope.

Are you a casual Apple observer or an industry expert? Either way, this newsletter has you covered with a blend of insider information, the latest rumors for the next iPhone, and user-friendly guides on how to get the most out of your Apple Watch, iPad, AirPods or Mac.

[It should be noted, AppleUnboxed is not affiliated with Apple Inc.]

If we haven’t met already, this is me: I’ve been writing about technology in general, and Apple in particular, for a while now, for publications like
Forbes, the Independent and Monocle Magazine.
Forbes
I’ve reviewed pretty much everything that’s come out of Cupertino since before the iPhone launched. I’ve been super-lucky, having had unparalleled access, from testing products first to shadowing CEO Tim Cook on a trip to Beirut, for instance. That was very cool, remind me to tell you all about it one day.

By the way, I also work as an actor, so if you’re sharp-eyed, you could have spotted me in stuff from the first Mission Impossible movie to the latest series of The Crown. For
Forbes, I’ve recently written about the most timely update to the iPhone imaginable, and how Apple Watch can spot Covid-19 a week before symptoms show - no wonder Apple calls this its most personal device. Have you used Scribble on the iPad? It’s neat, and it’s just become much more cosmopolitan.  Oh, and if you have a pair of AirPods Max headphones and the battery dying on you, well, there’s a fix for that.

See that sign above the door? It says All Welcome. So, there’s stuff for you here, whether you’re a developer wanting to know where Apple is going next, a creative professional interested in the thinking behind a new iPhone color, HomePod speaker grille or Apple emoji, or a regular Apple fan keen to know exactly when the next special event will take place.

Each week, there’ll be a punchy news item that’s current and urgent, such as hot takes on which rumors you should believe. There’ll be a deeper dive into an Apple feature that hasn’t had enough coverage. Not to mention tips on making the most of your shiny Apple products, interviews with Apple execs and reviews ahead of anyone else’s. Also look out for Things Nobody Told You, regular nuggets and secrets you won’t find elsewhere. Plus, keen analyses of everything from the latest iPhone software update to which is the very best Apple Watch band (Spoiler: it’s the Apple Sport Loop in Ginger colorway, if you ask me).

Above all, it’ll be fun, I hope, though you’ll tell me if there’s something missing or not to your liking, won’t you? I’ll be listening out for your questions, comments and feedback.

Anyway, it’s great to meet you, and – if this isn’t too forward – here’s how you can contact me: appleunboxed@forbes.com.

Before we get to the newsletter, here are some other things on
Forbes worth reading.
