Issue 152 - Changes, changes everywhere

Model 3 & Model Y

Model 3 now starts at $36,990
Tesla just lowered the price of their SR+ by $1,000. This change makes it $35,400 in California once you apply the Clean Fuel Reward. Note that the tweet also points at the SR Model Y getting a discount, more in the next entry.

Changes in the Model Y configurator
Two big changes this week:

  • The Model Y SR disappeared from the configurator after having been available for only a few weeks. Elon said on Twitter that it is available off-menu, but he also mentioned that the range (244 miles) doesn't meet Tesla's standard of excellence. As a person with a Model S 75 with 230 miles of range, I personally want something with 300+ miles of range as my next EV. Not that I need it regularly but it's going to be really convenient when traveling.
  • The Model Y LR AWD price went down $1K to $48,990 before incentives.

Tessie for iOS & Android: Make life with a Tesla even better
I love seeing Tesla owners coming up with their own product ideas, both hardware, and software. This week I came across this new app (Tessie) and it looks gorgeous! It also has some smart notifications that I like, for instance, it alerts you if there is supposed to rain and your windows are open. You can read more about their approach to security and other things in this Reddit post.

Tesla Solar Roof - What happens when it snows? 📹

In this video, you can see that the Tesla Solar Roof gets rid of the snow pretty quickly, as quickly as the next morning after the snowfall. In a reply on Twitter to a different video, Elon commented that the Solar Roof is "slightly hydrophobic, so water, snow or ice slide off easily".

  • SR - Standard Range
  • LR - Long Range
  • EV - Electric Vehicle
  • AWD - All-Wheel Drive
  • MIC - Made in China
