Yesterday was International Women’s Day, as you may have noticed from the barrage of themed emails in your inbox. Though it’s a day ostensibly dedicated to
shining a light on the work of women around the globe, my colleague, ForbesWomen Editor Maggie McGrath, says it’s morphed into something far more commercial. Instead of using the holiday for gifts and marketing campaigns, we should take this week to consider the role of women in the workforce.

Data shows that women outperform men on leadership skills. Yet only half the world is listening, and here’s why. It can also be much more complex to apply for a job as a woman. New research reveals that women often attempt to downplay their feminine qualities during their job search, but this is why it often backfires. Many times in the workplace, women remain silent instead of advocating for themselves. Here are three tips women can use to be more assertive.
