Welcome to Nitti Gritty Tax | Indispensable Weekly Tax Guide, Analysis And Commentary

Thank you for subscribing to Nitti Gritty Tax! Each Wednesday, the newsletter will arrive in your inbox, filled with all the tax content and obscure Simpsons references* you could hope for.

*Seasons 4-14.

Over the past decade, I’ve carved out a niche on the Taxes section of Forbes by working hard to simplify the tax law and to repackage the complicated legal language in a way that people can understand. In pursuit of that goal, I try to write in a casual, conversational manner that, futile as it may be at times, tries to make reading about tax entertaining.

While a weekly newsletter is no place for some of the deep dives I’ve taken in the past—like this 16,000 word missive on the finer points of
the 20% pass-through deductionyou can expect the tone to remain the same. I’ll continue to distill the tax law into manageable bites. I’ll keep providing informative Q&A segments. And I’ll never stop shoehorning ill-conceived jokes into an otherwise depressing conversation about the uniform capitalization rules.

The goal, of course, is to
learn. And my hope is that more than anything, it’s the professional growth that will have you coming back for more.

Each newsletter will be structured like so: There will be featured content that addresses the most pressing or impactful issue of the week. In addition, you’ll get introduced to a rotating cast of complimentary columns meant to inform and illuminate. You can expect to find:

  • The Latest on Legislation: Updates on the latest tax proposals coming out of D.C., and how they may impact individuals and businesses. After all, if we’re not a step ahead, we’re behind.
  • Recent Guidance: We’ll make sure you didn’t miss new regulations, instructions, or administrative rulings issued by the IRS.
  • Five Minute Master’s: From time to time, we’ll take a quick look at a fundamental tax issue that is often misunderstood, contains traps for the unwary, or that if properly implemented, can result in substantial tax savings.
  • Ask Tony: I get a lot of questions from readers, and some of them are quite interesting!  Each week, we’ll address an issue that’s been vexing the tax community.
  • Unanswered Questions: When it comes to the tax law, sometimes there are no answers. Occasionally, we’ll examine those prominent issues that remain unresolved by Congress, the IRS and the courts.
  • Tips and Tricks: No, no...I’m not talking about the type of abusive advice that took Wesley Snipes from the big screen to the big house; I’ll be offering smart, sensible strategies to legally reduce one’s tax liability.
Thanks again for reading and subscribing. The tax law may be changing at a dizzying pace, but we can keep up, one week at a time.
