Takeout burritos and minimizing design-time coupling in a microservice architecture
This is a talk I gave last week at QConPlus 2021.

I describe design-time coupling in a microservice architecture and why it’s essential to minimize it. I illustrate how to design loosely coupled services using the problem of ordering burritos. The above photo is from one of my favorite restaurants: Comal Next Door.

The Microservices Assessment Platform is generally available
If you have developed a microservices-based application then take a look at the Microservices Assessment Platform, which is now generally available.

It enables you to assess your microservice architecture and identify improvements.

It's free for individual use and pricing starts at $200/year for teams.
Hands on Microservices architecture and design workshop for teams
The remote version of my 3 day hands-on workshop for teams is available. Through a combination of Zoom-based and video lectures, Zoom discussions, architecture exercises, and code labs, I walk you through using the microservice architecture to develop your applications.

You’ll learn how to deal with some of the key obstacles you’ll face including distributed data management and discover strategies for refactoring a monolith to a microservice architecture.
