Issue 168 - Software & Autopilot History

Plaid

New UI from inside a Plaid Model X 📹
What we all first thought was going to be v11 turned out to be v10.2, or at least that's how it's called in the software. See the new UI in action, it is still unclear if or when Tesla will integrate this in the 3 or the Y. If I had o bet I would say they will but it will take a while, as it happened with the 3 when it was first released.

Great photos and videos from one of the 25 first Plaid S 📷
Beautiful, thank you Omar for sharing!

Plaid S backseat screen in action 📹
The screen seems pretty responsive and allows the passengers in the back to control their airflow, heated seats, as well as playing multimedia. I would like to see how easy it is to reach it and if young kids can do it. Also, is it possible to control that screen from the front?

Launching in a Plaid Model S 📹
Fun animation on the screen! In case you don't know, the term 'Plaid speed' comes from the movie Space Balls, they say the only thing faster than Ludicrous Speed is Plaid.

Tesla accessories

Tesla gaming controller 📷
Tesla Raj found a controller in one of the demo cars. Tesla seems to be working on their own gaming controller, what do you think? The handle thingy looks weird to me.

Refreshed Model S & X

Model S tutorial video showing selecting gears & using yoke steering controls ðŸ“¹
Love the visualization on the screen, it seems really intuitive, although I'm sure it will take time to get used to it.

Gear selection under the wireless charger 📷
If Smart Shift isn't your thing and the central screen fails, there is a way of always selecting the gear, the car comes with P R N D capacitive buttons right under the wireless charger.

Autopilot & Testers

Software & Autopilot History put into perspective 📷
Great visualization created by CleanTechnica.

Tesla expands Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) test operator team worldwide
Tesla is looking for testers for its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in Toronto, Barcelona, Paris, and Milan, which seems to be an effort to spend their testing in cities with heavy traffic and a variety of new situations.

Customer service

Tesla now replacing bubbling Model 3 headrests as a ‘goodwill’ gesture
You might have seen folks complaining about bubbles on the headrest of their cars, maybe you even suffered it yourself. According to Drive Tesla Canada, Tesla is now offering a replacement as 'goodwill' although they are warning folks that they are using the same material, so if this was caused by a hair product or something else, it might happen again.

Invoice from Tesla technician who showed up at a Supercharger ðŸ“·
This Redditor posted about their experience at a Supercharger where a Tesla technician showed up, Tesla sent him there to see if he could assist and he helped this owner by checking tire pressure as well as degradation, all for free 🤩

💡 Tip of the week

Associate a phone/key fob with a profile so it remembers it next time:
  • Model S and X:  Enter the car with the key,  tap the driver profile icon on the top of the touchscreen, select the driver profile you would like to link to the key, tap â€˜Link to Key Fob’
  • Model 3 and Y: Controls > Locks, select the driver icon to link the active key to it

🤓 What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • ADAS - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
  • UI - User Interface
