Build a Mini Notion Business

Last month, my Aurelium Life OS made $1026, with zero time and money spent promoting the product. (the extra $70 is from donations for freebies)

I launched this product early April, and its initial revenue spike died down by May, so I moved onto other projects and didn’t expect more.

I was recently surprised, less so that the template made over $1000k in May, but that the sales were fairly even start and end of month.

I expected any remaining sales to ride off of my PH launch and quickly depreciate, meaning that sales would be high early in May and die down later, but instead they were roughly even.

Today, I’ll teach you the steps I took to create this Notion side hustle, which can generate income for you while you sleep.

Validation

Before creating digital products or online content today, you should always validate, no matter what.

If you have an idea for a Notion template, don’t build out the entire thing immediately.

Firstly, create a skeleton page of the concept (it doesn’t have to work yet), and post the concept image on Notion Reddit, Slack, Facebook etc.

Unless it gets hundreds of upvotes/likes or great feedback, just drop it. You only spent 20 minutes making a template skeleton and posting a screenshot anyways.

Setup a Gumroad

If your template gets strong community feedback, make it a product on Gumroad and create a pre-order to test the waters.

Release your pre-order to Notion communities and your own audience if you have one. (don’t overdo this, space out your approach)

If no one pre-orders, simply drop the product, you only spent 15 ish minutes making a Notion concept page and taking a screenshot anyways.

Instead, if you gain significant traction, it’s time to double down on the project.

Distribution

Now that you know that people want it, build it all out, and distribute the official product.

End your pre-orders and launch it officially.

Product Hunt is an amazing platform that has propelled many of the most successful Notion templates today.

The cost you incur is probably 20 minutes of writing description text and whipping up a quick image on Figma, but you acquire potentially hundreds of thousands of eyes on your product if you place that day.

Lastly, also feel free to re-distribute your product to other Notion communities and your own audience, but just make sure to not spam!

Make sure to give value to the communities you join. Even if your product has high demand and is highly sought after by these groups, if it’s priced, don’t over-promote and get banned.

Conclusion

Notion templates are kind of a microcosm for Saas products, which I find really interesting. The work is fixed in the beginning, meaning the income becomes passive.
