Thanks for subscribing and joining us for a new edition of the Spotify Newsletter. What seemed like a low-key week of news actually delivered some interesting items - notably the companies possible shift into the live music world. Virtual events, live concerts and all that fun stuff.

Spotify’s Discovery Mode has garnered criticism from within the music community of late, but those arguments have been countered by popular DIY distributors and music marketeers who view Discovery Mode as a ‘valuable new promo tool.’

This story/argument is far from over as the music biz starts picking sides surrounding the Discovery Mode.

With Spotify’s Discovery Mode having garnered plenty of criticism from within the music community, the streaming service has published more case studies about and testimonials from artists who have successfully taken part in its pilot of the service.
That includes artists working with DIY distribution firms DistroKid and TuneCore, as well as the latter’s parent company Believe, all of which have formally endorsed the initiative.

Upon the initial announcement of the feature, the popular audio streaming app would allow users to swipe up from their selected song and lyrics would populate the screen. Users would also be able to control the volume while the lyrics showed up on the screen.
