Switch Weekly - Pokemon unite for your moolah
MOBAMON Web version | Unsubscribe Hi, here's issue #242 of Switch Weekly, with your Sunday Nintendo update. So, Mario Golf and Pokemon Snap for Switch. I bought both of them....and I've now sold both of them too. Pokemon Snap just straight up bored me — it really didn't capture my interest or seem compelling enough. The core mechanic wasn't quite the hook I remember it being. As for Mario Golf, I played a bit of the adventure, and did a few rounds online, and got my fill. It just felt a bit rough around the edges generally. I kept telling myself I'd come back to these games, but I knew that I wouldn't — as such, I've sold 'em and I've picked up Skyward Sword instead. I'm already having a much better time with it. I never played SS when it came out on Wii, so this is all new to me. I'm only around three hours in so far, excited to see where it goes. Anyway, next week we've got over 30 games coming to Switch, including Great Ace Attorney, a new Samurai Warriors, and Neo: The World Ends With You. Full list is below — and a handful have demos too. Finally before I go I want to tell you that I've teamed up with the fine folks over at Digg to create some neat Switch Weekly merch: we're kicking things off with this red American Apparel t-shirt. Let me know if you grab one — I'd love to see pics! 🎮 Currently Playing — The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Wild Guns REVIEW Pokemon Unite — I'd say it's wise to approach this free-to-play title with a healthy dose of scepticism, as it's "a fascinating spin on both Pokemon and the MOBA genre that simultaneously exhibits the best and worst of both of those ideas". Simplicity is its appeal, but it also seems to be full of kinda gross monetisation tactics. I'm yet to try it, but I'm curious to kick the tyres on it and see how far I can get before I feel that I'm cheated by someone who has just paid to win. Cian Maher // The Gamer Nathan Ellingsworth // Pocket Tactics Nintendo tweets to set the record straight — Following a Bloomberg piece last week that touched upon Nintendo's profit margins on Switch, the company went on the counter with a rare tweet rebuttal. Interesting to see them push back on this. They then followed up with yet another tweet adding that the company has no plans for any other Switch model 'at this time' — which is more in line with usual PR doublespeak. Nintendo Co Ltd on Twitter Switch Online’s retro service is better than it’s getting credit for — Additional games have been announced for the Switch Online service, and once again they're some of the more obscure titles from the SNES library. Chris makes the case for why that's alright. Chris Scullion // VGC REVIEW Last Stop — "tells three interesting stories, but lacks enough meaningful choices or consequences to create investment in its drama". Tristan Ogilvie // IGN REVIEW Boomerang X — "Dripping with style and absolutely stuffed with incredible combat [...] one of the best action games of the year".
