Power BI Weekly Newsletter Issue #123
powered by endjin
Welcome to the 123rd edition of Power BI Weekly! Firstly, a newsletter related announcement - the next edition of Power BI Weekly will be on the 7th September as I'll be taking a break to go and climb some hills in England. I'll respond to any emails sent to me during the next few weeks upon my return. Now, enough about me...
Naturally, the main announcement from the past week has been the Power BI August 2021 Feature Summary, including nice little updates like using measures to define the values for x-axis constant lines and the new syntax for expressing Date and DateTime values in DAX. Other updates from that feature summary include various connector improvements (e.g. Databricks/BigQuery), a new Enhanced experience for browsing visuals, and just a brief note on a huge feature regarding automatic aggregations for DirectQuery datasets - though no one can seem to find any corresponding documentation for that feature yet!
Elsewhere this week, Reza Rad has reminded us about the difference between Explicit Vs Implicit DAX Measures and how it affects the "Analyze in Excel" functionality, Bas Dohmen has described how to achieve a Dynamic Benchmark Range applied to a line chart, and Patrick Leblanc has given us a walkthrough of the Visio visual in Power BI.
If you have any content you'd like to contribute to the newsletter, please tweet @PowerBIWeekly or ping an email to PowerBIWeekly@endjin.com.
