For a sizable chunk of the US workforce, a late-summer morning used to look like this: Wake up. Chug coffee. Shower. Put on makeup. Sweat off makeup on the way to the office. Then 2020 happened, and our priorities shifted from worrying about our appearance to simply making it through these “unprecedented times.” 

Now, with office dress codes up for reinvention, women are leaving a full face of makeup out of the equation, said Brittany Wong in a recent piece for HuffPost.

“As workplaces return to physical offices, many women say they’re wary (and weary, after years of waking up so early) of putting on a full face of makeup before their workday begins,” she wrote. Some of the women she spoke to feared the dreaded, “You look tired!” comments, or worse, getting dinged because of looking less “clean” or “professional,” but one takeaway after reading the piece, for us, was: Hey, the only person looking at your face that closely is you. 

We asked around the virtual office and found that most of our coworkers are indeed planning to ditch their heavy makeup routines for good, and are now wearing less makeup or none at all.

“My routine to go into the office was a full face of makeup and, most of the time, hair done too...now I’m lucky if I do my hair,” said Estefi Herrera, an integrated marketing associate at Morning Brew. “I’m really into the no-makeup look now, so I’m excited to wear less but still feel good in my skin.”
