Announcing the Second Round of the Literary Arts Emergency Fund 

The Academy of American Poets, the Community of Literary Magazines & Presses, and the National Book Foundation issued a joint press release last week announcing the renewal of the Literary Arts Emergency Fund, which will provide $4.3 million to nonprofit literary arts organizations and publishers experiencing continued financial losses due to COVID-19. Regrants from this fund are made possible by a renewed grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The application portal will open in November 2021 and close in January 2022. Learn more.

High School Students: Submit to the 2022
National Poetry Month Poster Contest

The Academy of American Poets invites students living in the United States, U.S. Territories, or Tribal Nations who are in grades 9 through 12 to enter artwork to be considered for the National Poetry Month poster in 2022. The winner will be selected by co-judges Rafael López, New York Times-bestselling illustrator and artist, and Nikki GrimesNew York Times-bestselling author and poet. The winning student’s artwork will be featured on the official National Poetry Month poster in 2022, which will be distributed to classrooms, libraries, bookstores, community centers, families, and individuals nationwide in time for the April celebration.

Submit to the Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize 

The Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize is given to honor exceptional poems that help make real for readers the gravity of the vulnerable state of our environment at present. Poems for the 2022 Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize will be judged by environmental thought-leader and activist Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali and poet Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Submissions will be accepted until November 15, 2021.
