This week’s money mood: Ask 👏 for 👏 more. 👏

We can’t talk about financial wellness without talking about your career. Or any kind of wellness, for that matter. After all, your career overlaps with every area of your life.

This I know: You’re working hard. So I wonder: Is it time to ask for that raise? Or start looking for a new opportunity that will get you closer (or all the way) to the compensation you deserve? Part of financial wellness is advocating for yourself through negotiation.

I encourage you to consider just how valuable you are and how resourceful you can be. There’s nothing you can’t do! So get scrappy, gather the data you need, pinpoint your accomplishments, have a pep talk with yourself, and make the ask for more.

Two things will happen: one, you’ll be proud of yourself for making the ask; and two, you’ll either earn more, know what you need to do to earn more, or walk away knowing it’s time to move on to your next role … where you’ll likely earn more!

Here are some resources to help you do it.

I absolutely believe in you,

$$ wins of the week

Every week, we ask you to tell us about your recent money wins so we can celebrate them. And lately, it feels like every week, we hear from people who just took their income to another level. Like:

  • “I changed employers and doubled my income so I can support my family while my husband pursues his dream job!”
    — Cynthia, an Elle Raiser from Castle Rock, CO

  • “I recently got a job that gave me an almost $20k salary bump from what I’m getting paid at my current job AND it’s full-time remote in my desired industry. A dream coming true!”
    — Jessica, an Elle Raiser from Boston, MA

  • “I have been killing it at work, but the work I’ve been doing is above the level I was being paid this year. This week I successfully negotiated a promotion and salary raise of nearly $20,000!”

  • “I quit my job at an extremely toxic digital marketing agency last month, and now I am freelancing from home — making more in a week than I did in a month with my old in-office job!”
    — Jordan, an Elle Raiser from Asheville, NC

Congrats (and go you!!) to everyone making 🔥 salary moves lately.
